Vermicomposting — the process of converting organic waste into nutrient-rich castings with earthworms — is one of Botanix’s quiet sustainability heroes. Our kitchen and garden scraps are fed to vermibeds where red-wriggler worms convert them into dark, crumbly castings that boost soil structure, increase nutrient availability, and inoculate beds with beneficial microbes. That means healthier, more resilient plants across our landscape and a reduced need for synthetic fertilizers. Vermicompost also helps our soil retain water — a big advantage during India’s dry months — and closes the loop on food-waste management right on property. Practical benefits we track include improved seedling establishment in the nursery and richer yields from the organic vegetable beds used in our restaurant. For those curious about the science: FAO and several recent reviews describe how worm castings increase available nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients while improving soil biology.
